Notes from Helen McMillan article " Adam Senior and his son, John, were soldiers in King's Royal Regiment of New York. Adam received his discharge from the Regiment in Montreal Dec. 23, 1783. He had served honestly and faithfully for three years. He was then entitled as was his son by His Majesty's late order of his Provincial Corps to become a settler in the province. United Empire Centennial Celebration 1784-1884 mentions Adam Baker, a soldier in the Royal regiment of of New York, Lunenburg Land Board , a wife and six children , P.L. 2nd 1786.
His son , John, married and had five children. They were all entitled to land grants as they became of age and all settled near their father's property at Santa Cruz ( a small settlement in Osnabruck Township, Stormont County, Ont. about 15 miles west of Cornwall on the St. Lawrence River. It no longer exists.) Here John built a Georgian style house with seven chimneys that was torn down during the building of the St. Lawrence Seaway. John became a ship's chandler supplying the needs of travellers both on land and on water. From Montreal to Kingston, his house became known as "Baker's".

Grave: Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, town of Parish, Oswego County
John Becker, a farmer, born 26 May 1797, baptized 10 July 1797 at Schenectady Reformed Church, died 19 June 1862 (DAR bible 19:17) in Parish, Oswego Co., New York; married Janet (Jane) Boughton, born about 1804 in Rennselaer Co., New York, died January 1862 in Parish, Oswego Co., New York. In the 1855 census for the town of Parish, Oswego Co., New York, John Becker is listed as being of age 59, born in Schenectady County, and a resident of Parish for 28 years; Jane, wife, 51, born Rensselaer Co., resident 28 years. According to the 1850 federal census, a 19 year old female named Catharine Ristoes, born in Germany, resided with the family.
According to the History of Oswego County, published in 1877 by L.H. Everts, the first grist mill was erected, with three run of stones, in 1828 by Paul Allen and John Becker, on the north branch of Salmon Creek, in the present village of Parish. In 1872 it was destroyed by fire, and in its place the larger mill owned by Robertson & Co. was erected, at a cost of $18,000. At the time of publication there had never been any other grist mills in the town.
John Becker was elected town clerk at the first town meeting, held the first Tuesday of May 1828, at the Parishville schoolhouse. He was also elected sealer of weights and measures.
In the winter of 1840-1841, after a "powerful revival of religion" it was thought desirable to build a church edifice during the coming season. After several meetings, a subscription was drawn up, payable to John Becker, in consideration that he should erect the church and give the land on which to build it, which he did. The church was erected in 1841, and in October of that year it was dedicated. Rev. Ralph Robinson was the preacher and Rev. Mr. Van Alstyne offered the dedicatory prayer. The church was used by Congregationalists, Baptists, Presbyterians, and Lutherans for many years alternately until 1869, when it was taken over by the Methodists. When the History of Oswego County was published, it was still the only church edifice ever built in the town. The Methodists rededicated the structure on 8 December 1876, Rev. B. I. Ives preacher. Its original cost was $1,800, and in 1870 it was repaired at a cost of $1,800 more. The renovated structure accommodated 300 people. On Sunday, 17 December 1899, after the janitor built a fire and went home for breakfast, a fire broke out and the original church burned. Many confused citizens thought that fire alarms were the church bells calling them to services.
The first Sunday school formed in the town of Parish was about the year 1830. John Becker was one of the first superintendents, and held the position most of the time until his death in 1862.
John Becker was Supervisor of the town of Parish in 1860 and 1861.
John and Jane are buried with their daughter Harriet in Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, town of Parish, Oswego County. Also buried there are Mary Jane Becker & her husband Merwin Avery, with their two daughters Emma Velmer Potter and Hattie M. Jenkins, widow of Charles H. Brown. Nearby lie Merwin's parents William and Jemima Avery, and her mother, Jemima, widow of Richard Ford.
Children (all except possibly the first were born in Oswego Co., New York).

Simeon Nicholas Ault, the sixth of 9 children of Nicholas N. Ault and Margaret Ross, was born on 24 July 1828 in the Nicholas N. Ault home in Charlesville. He died, age 77, on 19 May 1905 in Acton, Ont. and he was buried in Woodlands West Presbyterian Cemetery. His gravestone was removed to the St. Lawrence Valley Union Cemetery near Long Sault in Stormont Co. before the Cemetery was covered by the developing Lake St. Lawrence in 1958.
Simeon Nicholas Ault and Mary Agnes Baker were married in Aultsville on 5 Oct 1865 by the Reverend Richard Garrett.
Mary Agnes Baker, the daughter of William Hiram Baker and Mary Stuart was born on 24 Nov 1840 in Osnabruck Twp. She died on 1 Oct 1895, age 55, in Montreal and she was buried next to her husband. Her gravestone was also moved to the St. Lawrence Valley Union Cemetery.
Simeon Nicholas Ault and Mary Agnes Baker had 1 child - Percy Baker Ault, b 8 May 1867, d 27 July 1898
Simeon Nicholas Ault was a part-time farmer and business man who farmed the WV2 of Lot 34 in Concession I in Osnabruck Twp. This was the Crown grant farm that his grandfather Nicholas Ault had received via his Ticket of Location on 24 Nov 1785 and had patented the property on 12 Mar 1797. Simeon was also a member of the firm of I.R. Ault & Co. whose general stores were located in Aultsville and Lunenburg. Simeon spent considerable time in Montreal taking care of the Ault lumber business and other interests.
After their marriage in 1865, Simeon and Mary Agnes lived in the Nicholas N. Ault home and when Nicholas N. died in 1871 Simeon inherited the home and the property.
On 3 Sept 1895 Charles Sidney Ault, a nephew of Simeon, married Ella M.V. Baker, who was the younger sister of Mary Agnes, and arrangements were made for the newlyweds to move in with Simeon and Mary Agnes. Although the results of this move were not very satisfactory, Simeon continued to live in the house after his wife Mary Agnes died at the age of 55 on 1 Oct 1895. Simeon lost interest in the business after his son Percy died at the age of 31 on 27 July 1898. He sold his share in the business and the farm to his nephew Charles Sidney Ault. Charles Sidney also bought the Nicholas N. Ault home from Simeon. Simeon then moved to Acton, Ont. to be with his nephew Dr. Edwin D'Arcy Ault. He died in Acton in 1905 and at the time of his death he was the only surviving member of the firm of I.R. Ault & Co. He was remembered in Aultsville as being active in community affairs, as a staunch Presbyterian and as a conservative in politics and in business affairs.
Some of the preceding information was obtained from the Simeon Ault Family Bible that was inherited by Charles Sidney Ault and maintained by his wife Flora Mac Arthur Ault. This Bible is now under the care of Edwin F. Ault Esq. of Weston, Ont.
Percy Baker Ault, the only child of Simeon Nicholas Ault and Mary Agnes Baker was born on 8 May 1867 in Aultsville. He died, age 31, on 27 July 1898 in Aultsville and he was buried in Woodlands West Presbyterian Cemetery. Percy Baker Ault and Janette M. Bassett were married on 26 Dec 1894 in the Bassett home in Maryland. Janette Bassett was the daughter of Stephen J. Bassett and Victoria Reed. No record could be found on this couple who lived in Chicago for a short time after their marriage. They returned to Aultsville where Percy died in 1898. This was less than 4 years after their marriage. It is quite likely that Janette returned to Maryland.
George Stanley Ault and Janette Bassett Ault were married on 19 July 1900 in Maryland. Janette Bassett Ault, the widow of Percy Baker Ault and the daughter of Stephen J. Bassett and Victoria Reed, was born in Maryland. Her death date and burial site could not be determined.

Charles Sidney Ault, the third of 5 children of Isaiah Richard Ault and Mary Ann Loucks, was born on 10 Aug 1862 in the Isaiah Ault home in Aultsville. He died, age 73, on 25 Jan 1935 in Aultsville and he was buried in Woodlands West Presbyterian Cemetery. Before this Cemetery was inundated in 1958, his gravestone was moved to the St. Lawrence Valley Union Cemetery located on Lots 6 & 7 in Concession 1 in Osnabruck Twp. near the village of Long Sault.
Charles Sidney Ault and Ella M.V. Baker were married on 3 Sept 1895 in Aultsville by the Reverend McLeod. Ella M.V. Baker of Woodlands, the daughter of Hiram Baker and Marian Short, was born on 13 Nov 1861 in Farran's Point. She died, age 42, on 18 May 1903 in Aultsville and she was buried in Woodlands West Presbyterian Cemetery.
Charles Sidney Ault spent his lifetime in Aultsville. He was educated in the Aultsville schools and as a young man he lived with his parents in the Isaiah Ault home which was located on Lot 123 8 (Belden page 22) on the north side of York St. at the corner of Mill St. The Ault General Store was located next door on the northwest corner of Nelson St. and York St. Charles Sidney began working in the store at an early age and he soon took an active interest in all of the Ault business ventures in lumber, coal, grain, feed and merchandising. When his father Isaiah died in 1889, Charles age 27, Arthur William age 29 and the widow Mary Ann Loucks were named as executors of the Isaiah Richard Ault estate. During the next 10 years Charles assumed an increasing responsibility in the management of the Ault store and of the other businesses. He continued to manage the Ault enterprises until the Lane family, who had bought the Samuel Ault home and farm, bought the store and some of the Ault business ventures about 1930. When Charles Sidney and Ella M.V. Baker were married on 3 Sept 1895, Charles was living in his parents' home which was also occupied by his brother Arthur William, his wife Nellie Ellen MacPherson and Mary Ann Loucks. Charles and Ella were invited to move across the street into the spacious Nicholas N. Ault house which was then occupied by his uncle Simeon who had married Ella's sister, Mary Agnes Baker, 30 years ago. Unfortunately, Mary Agnes died about a month after this living arrangement was started. Simeon, the widower, continued to live in the home for a few years but when Charles bought out Simeon's interest in the home and in the Ault business ventures, Simeon decided to move to Acton, Ont. where he lived with his nephew Dr. Edwin D'Arcy Ault.
Ella M.V. Baker died in 1903 and Charles Sidney Ault married Flora Minerva Mac Arthur in 1908. They took up residence in the Nicholas N. Ault home and their two children Douglas and William were raised in this spacious home and both of them were educated in the Aultsville schools. Charles died in this Ault home in 1935 and his widow Flora was living in this red brick house when the Ontario Hydro Commission took over all of the Aultsville property to make way for the Power Dam and the Seaway Project at Cornwall. By that time, in the 1950's, five generations of Aults had been born and raised in the Nicholas N. Ault home.
Charles Sidney Ault and Flora Minerva MacArthur were married on 3 Mar 1908 by the Reverend G.S. Anderson in the Morrisburg home of F.W. Hepburn. Flora Minerva MacArthur, the first of 2 children of Duncan MacArthur and Almeda Whittaker was born on 26 Aug 1879 in Williamsburg Twp. She died, age 99, on 12 July 1978 in Toronto. She was cremated and buried in the St. Lawrence Valley Union Cemetery. Funeral services were held in Aurora, Ont. on 14 July 1978 and a Memorial service was held on 21 July 1978 in the Presbyterian Church in Ingleside, Ont. Charles Sidney Ault and Flora Minerva MacArthur had 2 children. Douglas MacArthur Ault, b 28 Mar 1909, d 19 Jan 1972. William Gordon Ault, b 11 Aug 1918.
