Enlisted in the 74th
Regiment of Foot: December 8, 1831 in Belfast, at 21 years 11 months. The Battalion was stationed in Limerick. In October he was stationed in Templemore, and in December he was stationed in Borrosoleigh.

- Trade or Calling: a weaver
- Size: Five feet, six and 3/4 inches
- Complexion: sallow
- Eyes: light blue
- Hair: fair
- Marks: none
- Services Abroad: Landed in the West Indies on the 6th day of December 1834
- At time of enlistment: no wife or children
- Next of Kin: Father, Joseph Weekes, County Antrim, Parish of Aghagle (sic) [Should be one of: Aghagallon, Aghalee or Ahoghill]
- 1833-1834 Joseph was stationed in Kilkenny, Pigeon House Fort and Dublin.
- 1835-1836 Joseph was stationed in Grenada, Barbados, Antigua, and Montserrat
- 1837-1838 Joseph was stationed in St. Vincent and St. Lucia
- 1840-1841 The Battalion was stationed in Trinidad, Tobago and Barbados
- 1841, February 21, Joseph drowned while stationed in Barbados. His next of kin is listed a "Father Joseph Weekes. Antrim Ballymena". At that point, presumably, his military record was forwarded to his father, and later passed down through the family. Images from that record are available below.
